In 2014, Hamza Falak, a seven-year-old young boy, was living with his parents and two siblings in Hyderabad, Sindh. He was a lively young child, lighting up the entire house with joy via his antics. Hamza was particularly close with his father, salesperson at a local showroom. He always knew just what to say to Hamza to cheer him up. However, when he started having a fever that would not go away, even his father could not do the trick. Hamza’s condition was misdiagnosed as a chest infection at a local hospital. However, when a mass appeared on Hamza’s neck, his parents were terrified.
In search for answers for Hamza’s ailment, the family travelled to Chiniot, Punjab to Hamza’s maternal grandparents and then to Faisalabad, where a local hospital operated on the mass and sent the sample to Shaukat Khanum Laboratory Collection Centre for analysis. When the results came back, Hamza was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (a type of cancer). Hamza’s family was paralyzed with fear and hopelessness. They soon made a decision to do whatever it took to save their boy.
They were advised to go to Karachi for treatment, as they would be closer to their home when the prolonged process of chemotherapy begins. They visited the Shaukat Khanum Diagnostic Centre and Clinic in Karachi from where they were referred to SKMCH&RC, Lahore. This meant that Hamza’s father had to leave his job and part from his other children for an uncertain period of time. While travelling to Lahore, Hamza’s father was gripped with the fear and uncertainty of Hamza’s situation as well as their financial status.
As they reached Shaukat Khanum in Lahore, a huge burden was lifted from Hamza’s father as he was accepted with full financial support. The hospital proved to be a good choice as it made the transition for Hamza very easy. The hospital’s in-house schooling program and the play rooms designed for pediatric patients made Hamza’s time there as smooth as possible. Hamza continues to prosper on his road to recovery. Your support and contribution to Hamza’s treatment will help him get back to his two siblings faster. Help Hamza’s father save his son through your donation.
